My first project was a study for Rio Tinto at the Kennecott Mine, over 20 years ago. The lead running the project was brilliant, the scope was enormous, and the timeline was slipping — so he brought me in to help him get it across the finish line. A team of six of us counted, photographed, weighed, and measured every piece of inventory across 7 warehouses. Four-month scope, delivered in three. That data became the design for their new distribution center in West Jordan, Utah — and the $8 million integration contract that followed.
That's the pattern that's followed me for two decades: complicated projects, high stakes, and a smart leader who needs someone they trust to make sure the work actually gets done. Twenty-plus years and 1,200+ projects later, we're still the people our clients call when precision matters.
Founded by Steve Macurdy, Woulf Group has grown from a one-man warehouse consulting practice into a 10-person core team with 20+ regular contractors, operating across 3 countries and having designed systems for projects in 3 more — a 6-country footprint across operations and design work.
We've designed, installed, or fully integrated warehouse systems for industry leaders including Rio Tinto, Cabela's, Sportsman's Warehouse, Frito-Lay, Balance of Nature, the LDS Distribution Center, and a Fortune-50 grocery retailer. 1,200+ projects. 20 million square feet of warehouse and distribution space analyzed, designed, or integrated. Along the way, we've performed 1,000+ logistical, profitability, loss, ROI, and efficiency studies for everything from early-stage startups to multi-billion-dollar distribution networks.
The work that matters most to us isn't the biggest project — it's the one where we helped a single company grow from $10 million in annual revenue to over $1 billion in four years. Not through marketing tricks. Through automation, systems design, integration, studies, calculations, and proformas — making sure the right system went in at the right time, in the right place.
That's the pattern we've run for two decades: diagnose the real problem, design the right solution, and make sure the numbers work before anyone pours a slab or buys a conveyor. WoulfAI is the next chapter of that work — putting the intelligence behind our best operations into the hands of every business that needs it.
Most warehouse integrators show up, sell you equipment, and leave. We don't work that way. Our engagement usually starts with a study — efficiency, loss, profitability, ROI, or capacity. Only after we understand your operation do we decide whether automation, software, design changes, or process work is the right answer.
Recent and in-progress work includes a $700 million manufacturing facility we designed and 3D-modeled, a live 3PL operation we run ourselves, dozens of capital business cases for automation investments, and ongoing advisory engagements with operators across the warehouse, construction, and logistics sectors.
The number that matters most: inefficiencies found.
Across 1,000+ studies, we've identified hundreds of billions of dollars in operational inefficiencies — and designed, quantified, and justified the solutions to capture them. Our business cases don't deal in vague “optimization opportunities.” We put the number on the page, show our math, and defend it in front of CFOs and procurement teams. Typical payback periods run under a year. The shortest we've delivered: 4 months.
Beyond physical warehouse systems, we've built:
We don't just use software. We built the stack from the ground up because nothing on the market did what our clients actually needed.
